Most students living off campus are housed in the Curt, Gort or Dun'a Coiribe apartment complexes. Each complex accommodating around 500-600 students. All of which are situated one next to the other, therefore you can imagine what Rag Week looks like when they all celebrate.
Cans, bottles, cardboard, chaos, fire and litter could be found everywhere. Normally I bike home using the sidewalk passing the apartments. However this mob of twisted students didn't seem all too inviting. As Abby C. and I approached a girl warned us "Pedal fast, very very fast" seeing as though students on bicycles had been mobbed throughout the day as they passed back and forth on their way home. Deciding to keep our distance we photographed the event and opted for the sidewalk along the road instead.
With no desire to join in the Rag Week mob Abby C. and I agreed to celebrate, but on a smaller, classier scale. Stopping at Dunnes we purchased Berry & Pear Bulmers(an Irish cider) as well as a bottle of red wine. Without a bag we were forced to carry our purchases in our hands while biking. This didn't work out so well for me, as two of my cans slipped from their plastic rings and began to roll away. Scrambling to catch them and hold my bike I swerved and stumbled. Great, I now looked like a twisted student, but was the most sober kid in town!

As we returned to Centrepoint I took the stairs, like always, knowing that alcohol has plenty of calories and I am certainly not lacking. Therefore 103 steps would be a better option than the lift. Abby C. laughed and opted for the lift as she photographed my journey up towards our apartment.
Returning to Centrepoint our original plan to cook dinner and enjoy our wine was changed as we were invited to a Rag Week cookout. Ours was about 1/100 of the size compared to Gort's, but I was thrilled. Feasting on burgers, fruit and taco dip it was a great opportunity to enjoy the sunshine and get to know other Centrepoint residents.

So you may be questioning how much alcohol did you consume yesterday? Rest assured I had very little...and it took me 4.5 hours to finish. I'm not exactly a speed drinker. Nor do I ever intend to be. While here, I am experiencing Irish culture. However, it is not my intention to ever abuse alcohol or become intoxicated. I will stick with my one can of fruity flavored cider even if it takes me 4.5 hours to finish : )
Last Monday I returned from Castles to find wonderful packages waiting for me. Guess what, it's a reoccurring theme. Yesterday I had another one! Not expecting a package, it came as quite a surprise. Inside I found a brand new pair of Cherry Red Asics with bright yellow laces! This was my first time receiving shoes in the mail. Of course I screamed and shrieked with excitement. My current pair I've been running in since high school. Torn, tattered and splattered with mud they are rich with character and love. However, running in the rain has made them a bit smelly, adding to their beat up nature. As a test athlete for Asics, Steve receives free shoes and was able to get a pair for me as well. Wearing them all night long I was tempted to sleep in them. With such an intense appearance I would have never picked them out, however I think they're kind of fun. Their bright color makes them look fast, hopefully this will carry over into my running : )
